How To Make Your Own Beauty Supplies: Face Masks
Everybody is looking for ways to save money these days, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice beauty for it! If you’re looking for a way to cut your cosmetics budget in half, there are many ways you can save. For skin, hair and nail care, making your own cosmetics is not only a great way to save money, but you’ll also rest easy knowing you’re using fresh, natural products with no harsh chemicals. It’s win, win!
The easiest products to make at home are facial masks, which are one of the most expensive skin care products out there for purchase. There are several kinds of masks you can make from things in your own kitchen or garden, no matter what skin type you have.
If you have oily skin, the best skin mask for you is something that is clay based. You can get clay powder from any health food store. You’ll also need honey, water, and if you like (and I highly recommend) tea tree extract. Mix a handful of the clay with 2 teaspoons of honey, one tablespoon of water, and a few drops of the tea tree oil. Mix it well with your hands, until you have a thick paste. Add water as needed for consistency. Slather it on and let dry for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, and use a combination of lemon juice and crushed strawberries afterwards to tone and moisturize, then rinse again. Dry out any left over clay mixture, powder it and store it in a glass jar. Next time you need a mask, just add water!
For combination skin, use a rosewater honey yogurt mask. It sounds like exactly what it is. Take 6 rose petals, soak them and crush them in a bowl. Add a little water. Then add them to one half cup of plain yogurt (not lowfat or flavored). Next, microwave 2 tablespoons of honey for about 5 seconds, just to get it runny, and add that to the mix. Stir it well and apply to your face generously. Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
For dry, aging or sensitive skin, use the simplest mask of all – avocado and honey. Take 2 tablespoons of honey and one half of an avocado. Put them in a bowl and mash them together with a fork. Mix them until they are blended well, and the mixture is smooth. Apply to your face and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse well with warm water, and use the lemon strawberry mixture afterwards, if you like.
No matter your budget, or your skin type, one of these recipes is sure to give you a healthy natural glow.
